The drive from Leipzig to Berlin

From Leipzig it is about 125 kilometres north on the A 9 to the Berlin ring road, then the A 10 and A 115 into the city. In total that is about 190 kilometres, just over two hours without traffic.

The bottleneck comes at the end: the ring road and the city can get busy. That is why we start earlier than on the other routes. If the day gets too tight for a larger flat, we load the day before and drive the next morning.

Example for a two-room flat with packed boxes. Floor, lift and volume shift the times. The opposite direction works the same way.

No-parking zone in Berlin

In Berlin you apply to the Straßenverkehrsbehörde of the district where the zone will be. The city states an average processing time of about four weeks and a minimum fee of €21. That is the longest lead time on our five routes.

The authority only issues the order, it does not provide signs. A road works safety company (Baustellenabsicherung) puts them up. We handle the Leipzig side, and for Berlin we tell you where the application goes.

Living in Berlin: what we look at

Berlin is not one address but twelve districts with very different buildings:

• Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Neukölln: old buildings with a front house, side wing and rear house. If you live in the rear house, the way across the courtyard is added.
• Charlottenburg and Schöneberg: large flats in old buildings, and a lift is not a given. We ask about the floor, lift and width of the stairs beforehand.
• Marzahn, Hellersdorf, Gropiusstadt: high-rises and prefab blocks. With a lift it goes quickly, and we check beforehand what fits inside.
• On the outskirts: in Spandau, Köpenick or Zehlendorf there is often more room in front of the building, and a no-parking zone is needed less often.

Short-notice move: how fast we can come

You do not have to wait two or three weeks for a date. We are a family business with our own van and plan the day ourselves: if the day is free, we go, by arrangement also early in the morning, in the evening or on Saturdays. Sundays and public holidays stay free.

WhatsApp is the fastest way. Our goal is to reply within 10 minutes, Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. If we are carrying a wardrobe up the stairs at that moment, we reply as soon as our hands are free.

We bring blankets and straps. If your flat does not fit into one van, we say so beforehand, not on moving day. And to be honest up front: we have no goods insurance (Güterversicherung).
