Long-distance move from Leipzig
Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg or Munich — on a move between cities the price is set not by the distance but by how many trips are needed. We plan it so that one trip is enough, and give the fixed price beforehand.
What a long-distance move costs
For a flat of around 50 square metres we are at €1,200–1,900 — depending on how far it goes, how much there is and what the staircases look like at both ends. That covers everything: the drive, the van, two people, loading and unloading.
What really drives the price is rarely the distance. It gets expensive when the van turns out too small and has to go twice, or when there is no no-parking zone at one end and everything is carried fifty metres. That is why we ask for photos of every room beforehand — not out of politeness, but to estimate the volume properly.
The most common routes from Leipzig
Up to about two hours of driving we manage loading, the drive and unloading in one day. Further away we usually load on one day and unload the next — that is calmer and often cheaper in the end, because nobody works under time pressure.
Leipzig – Berlin
The most common route. Two hours on the road; parking in Berlin is tight, so plan a no-parking zone there for certain.
Leipzig – Dresden
An hour and a half on the A14. With a normal-sized flat it fits comfortably into one day.
Leipzig – Hamburg or Munich
Four to five hours each way. We load the day before and are there in the morning.
Shorter routes like Halle, Markkleeberg or Grimma we do not count as a long-distance move but at the normal rate plus travel (€1/km).
You need a no-parking zone twice
Almost everyone overlooks this, and it bites on moving day. A no-parking zone always applies to one address only — on a long-distance move that means once at the old place and once at the new one. The application goes to the city the street is in, and every city has its own deadlines and fees.
In Leipzig the authority reckons with about 14 working days, the fee starts at €32, and the signs have to be up four days in advance. In Berlin, Dresden or Hamburg the figures differ. The Leipzig side we take care of; for the other city we tell you where the application goes and how early it has to be sent.
Set the moving date, subtract four days for the signs and another three weeks for the authority. That is the latest point at which the application has to go out — in both cities at the same time.
What you can take on yourself
On a long-distance move you save most by packing yourself. We bring blankets and straps, but packed and labelled boxes easily save two to three hours in a two-room flat — at each end.
We do
- Dismantle furniture, carry it, load it
- The drive in our own van
- Unload and carry into the flat
- Reassemble furniture at the destination
- The no-parking zone in Leipzig
You save by doing it yourself
- Pack and label the boxes
- Pack clothes, books and crockery
- Clear the cellar and loft in advance
- Apply for the no-parking zone in the other city
What we do not do: moves abroad and transports that need a special licence. Within Germany we drive anywhere, as long as the flat fits into a van.
