Wardrobe dismantling and reassembly in Leipzig
Taking a wardrobe apart and putting it back up at the new address costs €35/hr — a PAX wardrobe is charged by the linear metre at €15/lin m. We come with our own tools, number the parts and reassemble the same day. We give the fixed price beforehand from photos.
What dismantling a wardrobe really costs
Most wardrobes are not built to be assembled twice. Chipboard breaks out around the dowel holes, back panels are stapled on, and the sliding-door rails of a PAX survive exactly one dismantling if you release them properly. That is why we charge by time rather than a flat rate: a two-metre wardrobe is down in an hour, a four-metre wall unit with sliding doors takes three to four.
- Wardrobe, sliding-door wardrobe, wall unit — taken apart and put back up
- PAX, Metod, Billy and other system furniture: we know the fittings
- Bed, shelf unit, chest of drawers, desk — €30–45/hr
- Carrying a single large item out of the flat — €35/pc
- Transport between two flats in our own van
How we work so the wardrobe survives the move
A wardrobe that was treated properly when taken apart stands straight again afterwards. The difference lies in small things that cost time and are therefore often skipped.
- Fittings go into labelled bags, one bag per section of the wardrobe
- Side panels are numbered — when reassembling, every hole lines up again
- Sliding doors are taken off and transported flat, not upright
- The back panel comes off in one piece if it still holds, otherwise we get a new one
- Broken-out dowel holes we fill and set the fitting slightly offset
With very cheap wardrobes we say beforehand if dismantling is risky. Sometimes a new wardrobe is cheaper than working time plus spare parts — we say so openly, even when it means we earn less.
Dismantling for a move — worth it or not?
Not every wardrobe has to come apart. A two-metre wardrobe often goes through the door and staircase in one piece, and then you save the dismantling entirely. We decide that on site in two minutes: measure, look at the staircase, done.
Worth dismantling
- Wall unit wider than 2.5 m
- Narrow staircase or a spiral staircase
- Door frame narrower than 80 cm
- The wardrobe has to go up three floors without a lift
Carrying it whole is enough
- A single wardrobe up to 2 m, taken apart where it stands
- There is a lift
- Ground or first floor
- The wardrobe is old and would not survive being taken apart
Three examples of how it works in practice
So you can judge the time — these are jobs as they actually run with us. The sums given are labour, without transport and without materials.
Wardrobe, 2 m, two doors
Taken apart at the old flat, carried in our van, put back up at the new one — all in one morning. Two people, about three hours including the drive.
PAX wall unit, 3.50 m with sliding doors
Doors taken off and transported flat, carcasses dismantled one by one, fittings into labelled bags. Two broken-out dowel holes we filled and set the fitting offset.
Assembly only: a new wardrobe out of the box
The wardrobe had been standing in the hallway for three weeks. Assembled, aligned against a crooked old wall, doors adjusted, packaging taken with us.
What to sort out beforehand
The less we have to look for and clear on site, the shorter the paid time. Four things make the biggest difference:
- Empty the wardrobe — clothes, boxes and drawer contents out
- About two square metres of free floor in front of the wardrobe to lay the parts on
- Find the assembly instructions if you still have them — saves time with system furniture
- Tell us which floor the wardrobe goes to and whether there is a lift
