Drywall – a new layout without a building site

Drywall is the fastest way to change a layout. One large room becomes two, an alcove becomes a workspace, and a four-metre Altbau ceiling becomes a normally proportioned room with space above it for cables and pipes. We build a metal stud frame, board it with plasterboard, insulate the cavity and skim the surfaces so no joint is visible afterwards.

In Leipzig Altbau flats there is nearly always an acoustic question as well. Between two of your own rooms a simple wall is enough; between your flat and the stairwell it is not. We discuss the build-up in advance — single or double boarding, mineral wool in the cavity, decoupled from the floor. It costs a little more while building and decides afterwards whether you can hear the neighbour's television.

Flooring – laminate, vinyl, click parquet

A new floor changes a room more than anything else, and you can tell at a glance whether it was laid properly. What matters is invisible: a level substrate, the right acoustic underlay, expansion gaps at the walls, and exact cuts around door frames and heating pipes. That is what separates a weekend job from a floor that lasts ten years.

We check the substrate first. In older buildings floorboards are often uneven or springy — then levelling has to come first, or the new covering starts working and the click joints give way. We agree that preparation with you before any material is unpacked.

Measuring, timing and price

Drywall and flooring are charged by square metre and effort. For a quote that holds we need the room dimensions and a few photos — or we come round free of charge and measure ourselves. For these jobs that is usually the better route, because substrate and wall construction are hard to judge from a photograph.

We can buy the materials and account for them with receipts, or you buy them yourself and we charge for labour only. Either way, waste and offcuts leave with us.
