Mattress, sofa, fridge — what does disposal cost?
We collect individual pieces of Sperrmüll (bulky waste) from 35 €/pc and, if charged by volume, Sperrmüll costs 40 €/m³. Large electrical appliances such as a washing machine or fridge cost from 20 € to take away. And where it can be done for free, we tell you that too.
What does it cost to have a single item disposed of?
For a single piece of furniture we charge per piece, not by volume: 35 €/pc for a large item that has to be carried out. If more accumulates, billing by cubic metre is cheaper — 40 €/m³.
- Mattress — the most common single item. A standard mattress counts as one large item; two to three fit into a cubic metre
- Sofa and couch — often too big for the stairwell. Then it is taken apart on site; we charge 35 €/hr for that
- Bed and wardrobe — usually come out taken apart; the dismantling is the effort, not the transport
- Rugs and fitted carpet — loose rugs go as a single item, glued-down fitted carpet is ripped out at 2–10 €/m²
- Large electrical appliances — washing machine, fridge, cooker, tumble dryer: from 20 €
The price depends on the route, not on the object. If the mattress is already down in the yard, it is done in a moment. If it is on the fourth floor with no lift, +4–5 €/floor is added. There is no travel charge within 50 km of Leipzig. For longer distances we quote one total price from your photos, travel included.
Where it can be done for free — and where not
Not everything has to cost money, and we would rather tell you beforehand where you can save than sell you something you do not need.
Possible for free
- Electrical appliances at the retailer: if you have a new appliance delivered, you can hand over the old one free of charge under the ElektroG (the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act)
- Larger electronics stores also take back small appliances without a new purchase
- The Wertstoffhof (recycling centre) accepts Sperrmüll from private households — if you can get there yourself
- Charity shops (Sozialkaufhäuser) often take furniture in good condition for free
This is where we come in
- No car, no trailer, no second person to help carry
- Upper floor without a lift — +4–5 €/floor
- The item has to be taken apart first — 35 €/hr
- Several things at once, a cellar or a whole flat — 20–40 €/m²
- It has to be quick, for example before the handover of the flat
Honestly: if you have a van and two pairs of hands, take the mattress to the Wertstoffhof yourself and pay almost nothing. Our price does not pay for the waste, but for the carrying, the vehicle and the appointment.
Disposing of a mattress — the most common single job
An old mattress belongs in Sperrmüll (bulky waste), not in the Restmüll (general household waste) and not on the kerb. It is bulky, usually awkward and almost impossible to get down a flight of stairs alone — which is why it is the single item we are asked about most often.
- Standard mattress 90 × 200 or 140 × 200 — one large item, 35 €/pc
- Two to three mattresses together — cheaper by volume, 40 €/m³
- Box-spring bed — mattress, topper and base are three parts; the base is usually taken apart, 35 €/hr
- A slatted bed base goes along as an ordinary piece of Sperrmüll
Anything that ends up on the pavement without a registered collection is an administrative offence in Leipzig (illegal dumping), and the fine falls on the person the waste comes from. The same applies to things that “someone will take anyway”. If they stay there, you pay — and usually more than the collection would have cost.
Disposing of old furniture: sofa, bed, wardrobe
Furniture disposal is the reason most people contact us — usually when moving out, buying new or when a room is to be used differently. Having old furniture disposed of works with us piece by piece or straight away for the furnishings of a whole flat.
- Sofa disposal — if it fits through the stairwell, it is a single item at 35 €/pc; if it does not fit, it is taken apart on site
- Bed disposal — slatted base, frame and mattress are three parts; the frame almost always comes out taken apart
- Wardrobe disposal — a wardrobe is always taken apart, otherwise it will not go through any flat door. Allow for 35 €/hr for the dismantling
- Kitchen disposal — base units, wall units and worktop separately; appliances count as electronic waste and go separately
From about half a room’s furnishings, charging by volume pays off instead of single items: 40 €/m³. And if the whole flat is to be emptied anyway, billing by living area is cheapest — 20–40 €/m². We work out which is cheaper in your case before the appointment; a few photos are enough for that.

Electrical appliances: fridge, washing machine, cooker
Large electrical appliances cost from 20 € to take away. They must not go into normal Sperrmüll, because they have to be recycled separately — in the case of the fridge because of the refrigerant, for all of them because of the electronics.
- Fridge and chest freezer — defrost beforehand and mop up the water, otherwise it drips through the whole stairwell
- Washing machine — drain the residual water from the hose and the lint filter; a machine with water still in it weighs considerably more
- Cooker and oven — the electrical connection is disconnected by a licensed firm; we are not allowed to. A plug-in appliance we take straight away
- Small appliances — microwave, vacuum cleaner, television go along as an add-on load if something else is being collected anyway
The electrical connection is the limit where we stop: hard-wired cookers and anything where cables have to be disconnected belongs to a licensed firm. We say so beforehand, so that nobody is surprised on the day.
How the collection works
- Send a photo — the item and the route outside, by WhatsApp or e-mail
- Fixed price — usually the same day, and it also applies if the carrying takes longer than expected
- Appointment — often in two to three days, on Saturdays if you wish
- Collection — we carry out, load and drive away; the spot is left swept clean
- Invoice — with the service itemised, on request with the drop-off receipt from the disposal site
If more is accumulating anyway — cellar, attic, a whole flat — charging by area instead of by piece pays off: 20–40 €/m² of living area. Just tell us everything that has to go, and we will work out the cheaper option.
