Furniture disposal in Leipzig: three options compared
There are three ways to get rid of old furniture in Leipzig: free of charge at the Wertstoffhof (recycling centre), through the Stadtreinigung (city cleaning service) for 25 or 50 € with a wait, or with us from 35 €/pc — straight from your flat and often within 2–3 days.
Three ways to get rid of old furniture in Leipzig
There are three ways in Leipzig. Which is best depends on whether you have a car, how much time you have and who carries the pieces down the stairs.
Take it to the Wertstoffhof yourself
Household bulky waste (Sperrmüll) can be handed in free of charge at the 15 Wertstoffhöfe (recycling centres). On site you show that you are registered in Leipzig, for example with your ID card.
Stadtreinigung collects
The city advises booking at least five weeks ahead. From the pavement the Wertmarke costs 25 €, from the flat 50 €.
We collect
We carry the furniture out ourselves, take it apart if needed and take everything with us straight away.

What collection costs with us
We charge single pieces of furniture per item; with several pieces, charging by volume works out cheaper. The price depends mainly on the route, not on the item.
- Sofa, armchair, wardrobe, bed: 35 €/pc per large item
- Mattress: counts as one large item, 35 €/pc
- Dismantling on site: 35 €/hr
- Washing machine, fridge, cooker: from 20 €
- Several pieces: by volume 40 €/m³
- Upper floor without a lift: +4–5 €/floor
One sofa
We carry it down and take it with us.
Sofa and mattress
Both go in one visit.
Half a room
From several pieces upwards we charge by the cubic metre.
Prices for individual items are set out in detail under Bulky waste disposal (Sperrmüll): costs. There is no travel charge within 50 km of Leipzig. For longer distances we quote one total price from your photos, travel included.
When which option is worth it
Honestly: we are not always the best choice. Our price pays not for the rubbish but for the carrying, the vehicle and the quick appointment.
- Wertstoffhof: you have a car or a trailer and someone to help carry.
- Stadtreinigung: you have time, everything fits in 4 m³, and the furniture is not badly soiled or mouldy.
- ShanBau: your flat handover is coming up, there is no lift, no car, or the wardrobe has to be taken apart first.
Anything that ends up on the pavement without a booked collection counts as unlawful dumping (ordnungswidrige Ablagerung). If it stays there, the fine goes to whoever the waste came from.
Still in good condition?
Furniture in good condition does not have to go into bulky waste. Sozialkaufhäuser (charity shops) often take it off your hands free of charge, and on Kleinanzeigen even simple pieces usually find someone who collects them.
Moving, or a whole flat?
Moving anyway? Then we take old furniture on the same visit — the van is already at your door. More under Moving in Leipzig and Moving helpers.
If the whole flat has to be emptied, charging by floor area is usually cheaper: 20–40 €/m². Everything about that is under House clearance and Cellar clearance.
